Short History of the West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia played its first season in 1891 and has earned 15 conference titles (eight Southern Conference, seven Big East). With 41 bowl appearances and a 17–24 bowl record, their history includes wins in major bowls like the 1954 Sugar Bowl, 1981 Peach Bowl, and the 2006 Sugar Bowl. WVU has fielded over 80 winning seasons, five 11-win seasons, and no national championships, but remains one of the highest-win programs without one.
