Short History of the Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue’s football program dates to 1887 and helped found the Big Ten (then Western Conference) in 1896. The Boilermakers have earned 12 conference championships (Big Ten and its predecessor leagues), including outright titles in 1929, 1931, 1932, and 1943. Recognized retroactively as national champions by Parke Davis in 1931, Purdue claims one early football title. Legendary stars like Drew Brees and Leroy Keyes emerged under coach Joe Tiller during their standout eras from the late 1990s to early 2000s.
