Short History of the Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State fielded its first football team in 1887, winning its debut game 54-0. Since joining the Big Ten in 1993, they have secured four conference titles (1994, 2005, 2008, 2016). The program won two consensus national championships under Joe Paterno in 1982 and 1986, and has produced 44 first-team All-Americans and a Heisman winner (John Cappelletti, 1973).
